Die Port Van Cleve Hotel

N.Z.Voorburgwal 176-180, Amsterdam 1012 SJ

Our Review

The Hotel Die Port van Cleve opened in 1870 and is housed in a traditional building consisting of numerous old townhouses. Its name refers to the previous building on the same spot, dating from 1592, in which Heineken brewed his first beer. The original interior, with its oak frame and blue Delft tiles is still intact. The lobby is small but welcoming with a small seating area.

Its name refers to the previous building on the same spot, dating from 1592, in which Heineken brewed his first beer. The original interior, with its oak frame and blue Delft tiles is still intact. The lobby is small but welcoming with a small seating area. The 120 guestrooms vary in size, due to the age of the building, but most are medium sized. They feature traditional décor, with floral bedspreads and dark carpets. Located on the ground floor, the hotel's brasserie, "De Poort", serves Dutch and international cuisine and is famous for its sizzling steaks. The hotel bar, "De Blauwe Parade", is decorated in typically Dutch style with a Delft tile fresco, while the peaceful, modern "De Hooiberg" bar is ideal for watching the world go by.
