Named after the legendary 17th-century Dutch privateer and vice admiral, the Piet Hein Hotel is housed in an ornate red brick building, overlooking Vondel Park. The hotel's traditional exterior belies its modern design inside. The open-plan lobby has a comfortable reception area and a lounge/bar with views of the park. The 61 guestrooms are decorated in simple modern style, with cube-shape chairs, gleaming Swedish woodwork, sisal-like carpeting and white-on-white hues. The maritime theme is evident in paintings of sailing ships and navy blue carpets with patterns of seaman's knots on them. The hotel offers a rich Continental buffet every morning in the bright, welcoming breakfast room, which features cream décor and hardwood floors.
