Our Review
The Avenue Hotel is housed in several inter-linked historical buildings, one of which used to be the warehouse of the Dutch East India Company. The lobby is long and narrow with limited seating and leads to a cosy bar, which is only open in the late afternoon and evenings. The 79 small guestrooms are decorated in a bright, cheerful contemporary style employing soothing shades of either pink or apple green.
They are not furnished with especially expensive materials, but they are comfortable. Double window glazing and extra-thick walls ensure that you won't be disturbed by street noise or raucous neighbours. The bathrooms are small, simple and up-to-date, and all are in good condition. The hotel offers a Continental buffet every morning in the bright, welcoming breakfast room, which is located on the ground floor. Guests can find postcards and souvenirs at the gift shop and stay in touch with friends and family using Internet connections in the lobby. Staff at the 24-hour front desk can advise on local sightseeing opportunities and assist with restaurant bookings. The hotel also has a street facing café-bar.
